Robert Half is partnering with an innovative clean energy startup seeking an experienced HR Director for a 9-month contract opportunity. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role requiring strong onsite presence with engineering and technical teams, along with strategic advisory support at the executive and board level. This role is ideal for a senior HR leader who thrives in fast-paced startup environments and can seamlessly balance strategic workforce leadership with day-to-day HR execution.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as a strategic HR advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors, providing insights on organizational design, workforce strategy, talent risk, and long-term people planning
Lead day-to-day HR operations while setting the broader people strategy framework that supports business growth and organizational scalability
Partner with executive leadership and department heads to align people strategy with business objectives, product priorities, and operational execution
Develop and deliver board-ready and executive-level presentations, including workforce analytics, talent strategy updates, and organizational health insights
Guide enterprise-wide recruiting and workforce planning strategy to support growth across key business functions, including technical and commercial teams
Oversee HR support for a global and distributed workforce, including immigration, visa processes, and cross-border employment considerations (including EOR relationships where applicable)
Lead HR systems strategy and transformation efforts, including HRIS optimization or migration, ensuring data integrity and operational continuity
Design and evolve compensation philosophy, job architecture, and leveling frameworks to support internal equity and long-term scalability
Advise senior leaders on employee relations, organizational effectiveness, compliance considerations, and risk mitigation in a high-growth environment
Maintain a visible onsite leadership presence, building strong trust and credibility with engineering, R&D, and operational teams to ensure alignment between strategy and execution
Requirements:
15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with demonstrated success in both strategic and operational roles
Experience in high-growth or startup environments with a hands-on, builder mindset
Proven experience partnering with executive leadership and advising at the board of directors level on workforce strategy and organizational priorities
Global HR experience supporting distributed and international teams, including exposure to EOR models and cross-border employment practices
Strong experience partnering with technical, engineering, and R&D organizations in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge of workplace compliance and safety considerations, including OSHA requirements
Experience with HRIS platforms, system implementations, or HR technology transformations
BambooHR experience is a plus
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence, advise, and build alignment across executive, operational, and technical stakeholders
