We are looking for an experienced HR Director to provide steady leadership for a non-profit organization during a period of transition. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for a hands-on HR leader who can guide daily operations, advise senior leadership, and support a workforce of approximately 250 permanent employees. The role calls for someone who can balance strategic direction with practical execution while strengthening employee communication, benefits oversight, and organizational compliance.
Job Responsibility:
Direct daily human resources activities to maintain consistent service delivery and operational stability across the organization
Supervise and support HR and payroll team members, helping prioritize work, resolve issues, and uphold service standards
Manage the organization’s self-funded health plan with close attention to cost control, vendor coordination, and employee understanding of available benefits
Partner with leadership to expand and formalize the performance appraisal program from pilot stages into broader organizational use
Advise managers and executives on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and HR practices that reduce risk and support sound decision-making
Strengthen compliance processes and governance standards by reviewing policies, monitoring regulatory obligations, and reinforcing best practices
Contribute both strategic insight and direct execution on compensation, benefits, and HR administration initiatives
Support ongoing use of HR and payroll systems, including Ellucian Colleague, as part of effective people operations management
Help the organization navigate transition needs by providing continuity, influencing stakeholders, and recommending practical improvements that fit the existing culture
Requirements:
3+ years of human resources leadership experience, ideally at the director level or in a comparable senior HR role
Demonstrated background in employee relations, HR administration, and compliance-driven human resources work
Experience overseeing benefits programs, including strong knowledge of compensation and benefits practices
self-insured plan experience is highly valued
Ability to lead confidently in discussions with senior stakeholders and provide clear, well-reasoned HR guidance
Proven success balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution in a fast-moving environment
Strong communication and change management skills, with the ability to build alignment while respecting organizational culture
Familiarity with HR systems and payroll processes
experience with Ellucian Colleague is a plus
Knowledge of policy development, governance expectations, and employment-related risk management
