We are looking for an experienced HR Director to lead and strengthen the people function for a growing technology organization in Mountain View, California. This Long-term Contract position calls for a hands-on leader who can balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution across core human resources operations. The person in this role will work closely with senior leadership to build scalable people practices, support a multi-state workforce, and foster a compliant, high-performing employee environment.
Job Responsibility:
Direct the full scope of human resources activities across the employee journey, including onboarding, employee support, benefits coordination, leave administration, compliance, and payroll oversight for a multi-state workforce
Collaborate with executives and department leaders to shape HR strategies that support business priorities, organizational growth, and operational effectiveness
Support corporate operations while partnering with HR leadership responsible for contracted workforce groups across multiple regions
Design and refine HR policies, programs, and internal processes that can scale effectively in a fast-moving, high-growth business environment
Advise managers and employees on workplace matters such as performance concerns, employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution
Maintain adherence to applicable employment laws and regulations at the federal, state, provincial, and local levels, with particular attention to California labor requirements
Coordinate payroll-related activities with internal teams and external service providers to help ensure accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation
Improve HR operational workflows by enhancing processes tied to employee records, onboarding, offboarding, and HR system usage and reporting
Lead initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention, organizational effectiveness, and company culture
Partner across functions, including operations, engineering, and leadership teams, to support workforce planning, talent strategy, and organizational design decisions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
At least 7 years of progressive HR experience with responsibility spanning multiple human resources functions
Background leading or significantly supporting a broad HR function within a startup, scaling company, or other high-growth setting
Strong working knowledge of employee relations, HR administration, benefits, leave practices, compliance, compensation-related processes, and payroll coordination
Experience supporting employees across multiple states, with additional exposure to Canadian HR practices preferred
Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a leadership role that requires adaptability and initiative
Strong communication and business partnership skills, including experience working directly with executive and senior leadership teams
Experience with HR systems, reporting, and employee data analysis
