An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housing Solutions Officer based in South West London with a leading Local Authority. We’re hiring an experienced Housing Solutions Officer to deliver high-quality homelessness prevention and relief services in a fast-paced local authority team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assess & decide homelessness applications under Part VII Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017: s189A assessments, Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) and s184 decisions with clear reasoning
  • Prevent & relieve homelessness: landlord negotiation, PRS access, mediation, DHP signposting, Sanctuary Scheme, and multi-agency interventions
  • Case management across prevention/relief/main duty stages (s195, s189B, s193), maintaining accurate records, evidence, and audit trails to KPI/SLA standards
  • Temporary accommodation (TA): arrange placements, conduct suitability checks, manage move-on plans and PRSO/PRSO suitability reviews
  • Complaints & legal: contribute to s202 reviews, prepare bundles, respond to pre-action, and apply the Code of Guidance consistently
  • Safeguarding & partnerships: work with children’s/adults’ services, VAWG/refuge providers, health, probation and voluntary sector partners
  • Data & performance: update systems (e.g., Jigsaw/Locata/Northgate/iWorld/Civica), support P1E/DELTA returns, and drive TA reductions

Requirements:

  • MUST HAVE recent experience as a Housing Solutions Officer within a UK local authority/housing options service
  • Strong, current knowledge of HRA 2017, Housing Act 1996 Part VII, Homelessness Code of Guidance, Domestic Abuse Act 2021, and interfaces with the Care Act/Children Act
  • Proven track record drafting robust s184 decisions and PHPs
  • Confident with suitability, local connection, intentionality and priority need assessments
