A well-established San Francisco law firm is seeking a detail-oriented Housing Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys in a high-volume tenant/landlord litigation practice. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys managing complex casework, and can effectively support matters from intake through trial preparation. The paralegal will play a key role in maintaining case organization, ensuring deadlines are met, and supporting attorneys in delivering strong advocacy for clients.
Job Responsibility
Support attorneys with all phases of housing litigation matters, including unlawful detainers, habitability claims, and rent control disputes
Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, and correspondence
Manage case files from intake through resolution, ensuring all documents are organized and up to date
Track court deadlines, hearing dates, and filing requirements to ensure timely submissions
Assist with discovery, including document collection, review, and production
Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel regarding case status and logistics
Prepare trial binders, exhibits, and witness files
assist with trial preparation and courtroom support as needed
Conduct legal research related to landlord-tenant law, local ordinances, and housing regulations
File documents electronically in state and local courts (e-filing)
Maintain accurate records in case management systems and update attorneys on case developments
Requirements
2+ years of litigation experience, preferably in housing, landlord-tenant, or civil litigation
Familiarity with unlawful detainer procedures, rent control laws, and housing regulations in California is highly preferred
Strong experience with drafting legal documents and managing litigation deadlines
Knowledge of state court procedures and e-filing systems (e.g., Odyssey, File & ServeXpress)
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
Experience working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management software
Strong written and verbal communication skills when interacting with clients and legal teams
