Job Description:

Brookline’s Planning department seeks an experienced and collaborative Housing & Community Planning Director to lead a broad portfolio of affordable housing, community development, and long‑range planning initiatives. The Director of the Housing and Community Planning Division oversees policy direction for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and manages key local funding sources, including the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Brookline’s Community Preservation Act initiatives. Responsible for deed‑restriction compliance, affordable housing lotteries, strategic planning, and coordinating complex projects with Town departments, boards, regional partners, and community organizations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead a broad portfolio of affordable housing, community development, and long‑range planning initiatives
  • Oversee policy direction for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program
  • Manage key local funding sources, including the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Brookline’s Community Preservation Act initiatives
  • Responsible for deed‑restriction compliance, affordable housing lotteries, strategic planning, and coordinating complex projects with Town departments, boards, regional partners, and community organizations.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in planning or a related field and five to seven years of relevant experience are required
  • a master's degree is highly desirable
  • Must have strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders as well as strong working knowledge of affordable housing finance, CDBG administration, municipal planning, grant management, and GIS
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Language skills in Chinese, Russian, Korean, or Spanish are desirable.
