Job Description

Under the supervision of the Hospital Services Supervisor, the Hospital Services Technician 1 is responsible for assisting in the inventorying and distribution of blood components and provision of excellent customer service to all Blood Bank of Hawaii customers.

Job Responsibility

  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and performs duties in compliance with BBH SOPs, cGMPs, and external regulations
  • Assures quality customer service to all customers
  • Performs daily maintenance in the Hospital Services department
  • Receives orders from customers and prepares appropriate components for shipment
  • Inspects, labels, quarantines and destroys (discards) blood components
  • Recognizes common equipment and procedural problems and takes appropriate initial response, communicates, and performs follow-up
  • Properly processes imported and returned components from hospital customers and other blood centers
  • Packs recovered plasma for further manufacturing
  • Processes requests for inter-hospital transfers and product retrievals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Previous medical/clinical laboratory experience
  • Good attendance
  • Flexible with schedule – able to adjust to varying work schedule and days off
  • Professional attitude/behavior towards job responsibilities and internal/external customers
  • PPE’s-Appropriate personal protective equipment to be worn in the laboratory at all times
  • Good oral, reading and written communication skills with the ability to give detailed information or instructions, ask questions that can be easily understood, and read, comprehend and apply information contained in written materials. Clear and legible handwriting
  • Good listening skills with the ability to receive and comprehend detailed oral or written information
  • Good assessment, judgment and problem-solving skills with ability to recognize areas of concern, clarify information that is needed and come up with possible solutions
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work with and service diverse individuals and provide excellent customer service
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Good organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task and maintain composure and professionalism when working under time constraints
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate and meet goals/objectives
