Recruits and screens applicants for volunteer services in the area of patient support/respite service, bereavement support, or administrative support
Oversees and provides comprehensive volunteer training
Assesses patient/family/caregiver for volunteer needs and makes appropriate assignment of volunteers
Makes initial joint visit with volunteer to introduce volunteer services to the patient/family/caregiver, completes the Volunteer Activity Plan
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the implementing, review, and revision of the patient’s/family’s plan of care and assists in the determination of volunteer needs
Supervises all aspects of the volunteer program
scheduling, monitoring appropriateness of patient care assignments, and completing probationary and annual performance evaluations
Monitors and updates volunteer personnel files as needed
Oversees completion of monthly reports required for: review of program status, verification of volunteer hours, and percentage of volunteer utilization vs. direct labor hours
Coordinates or provides continuing education for volunteers
Conducts volunteer support meetings as needed
Supports quality improvement efforts through participation in quality improvement activities as requested
Attends in-services and continuing education activities
Interfaces with the patient/family/caregiver, the hospice team, other health care providers in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner
Acts as a community liaison, providing community education on hospice philosophy and volunteer services
Maintains sound privacy and security practices and prevents privacy or security breaches
Requirements
Able to tolerate being physically active the entire working day
Able to provide appropriate level of assistance in emergency situations
Able to carry out fine motor and manual dexterity skills required to perform the job requirements
Demonstrates mental acuity and judgment skills to perform job requirements adequately and safely
Able to see and hear adequately to respond to auditory and visual needs of the job requirements
Nice to have
Baccalaureate or Masters Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, or related field
Two years’ experience in the area of volunteerism, death and dying, bereavement or related area
Prefer previous exposure to hospice services
Excellent time management skills, and communication skills
