About the Role: We are seeking a compassionate and collaborative Hospice Physician to provide medical leadership and oversight across our hospice program. In this role, you’ll ensure each patient’s plan of care is comprehensive, individualized, and aligned with hospice philosophy—focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. You’ll work closely with an interdisciplinary team, attending physicians, and families to manage pain, symptoms, and complex clinical needs, while serving as an advocate for hospice and palliative care in our community.

Job Responsibility

  • Certify patient eligibility for hospice care at admission and each benefit period
  • Serve as attending physician for patients without a primary physician when requested, including providing orders and signing death certificates
  • Provide or coordinate 24/7 medical coverage and clinical consultation for hospice patients and team members
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and revision of individualized plans of care as part of the interdisciplinary team
  • Lead best practices in pain and symptom management
  • Conduct medically necessary visits (in person or via telehealth when appropriate)
  • Collaborate with attending physicians to resolve care conflicts and ethical concerns
  • Contribute to clinical protocols, standing orders, policies, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in education for healthcare professionals and the community regarding hospice and palliative care
  • Serve as a professional ambassador and advocate for hospice care within the medical community

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience
  • hospice or palliative care experience strongly preferred
  • Valid driver's license, required insurance, and willingness to travel within the service area
