Job Description

Stable Futures is developing a brand-new alternative provision site to support Amegreen Education's new secondary SEN school, Juniper House. We are seeking an experienced and creative Horticulture & Culinary Lead to establish and lead a Horticulture and Outdoor Culinary department, including polytunnels, growing spaces, and outdoor cooking facilities, providing hands-on learning experiences that connect food, land, and life skills for learners aged 5–17.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead development and day-to-day running of Horticulture and Outdoor Culinary Provision
  • Design and deliver hands-on learning programmes linking horticulture, food growing, and outdoor cooking
  • Supervise and develop a team of learning mentors
  • Develop seasonal programmes linking planting, harvesting, and cooking
  • Adapt provision for learners aged 5–17 with SEND
  • Monitor and improve quality of provision
  • Support delivery of accredited programmes (ASDAN, AQA)
  • Develop careers and pathways in horticulture, catering, land-based industries
  • Lead health and safety, risk assessments, food hygiene compliance
  • Build relationships with schools, Local Authorities, parents/carers
  • Maintain records and use tracking systems
  • Engage in professional development

Requirements

  • Experience in horticulture, outdoor cooking, and leading teams
  • Experience designing and delivering hands-on learning programmes
  • Experience working with children with SEND
  • Knowledge of health and safety, risk assessments, and food hygiene
  • Strong communication and partnership working skills
  • Ability to adapt provision for learners aged 5–17
  • Qualifications in horticulture, food hygiene, or education (or willingness to work towards)
  • Experience with accreditation programmes (ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards) preferred
