Requirements

Progressively responsible leadership experience in the Massachusetts nonprofit, philanthropic, public, or private sectors, with deep knowledge of housing and homelessness systems, programs, and leaders in Massachusetts
Established relationships within the Massachusetts housing ecosystem
Demonstrated experience managing high-stakes external relationships with confidence, a clear point of view, and the ability to navigate competing priorities across coalitions and government partners
Experience in strategy development, systems change, and driving measurable, population-level impact
Previous management experience, including supervising direct reports and leading through complexity
Strong commitment to equity, economic justice, and community-centered leadership
Effective communicator with strong facilitation, writing, and public speaking skills
A collaborative leadership style that thrives within a larger institutional structure
Ability to work a hybrid schedule (currently a minimum of 2 days in the office) with additional in-person work for off-site meetings and events

Job Responsibility

Serve as United Way’s primary external voice on housing and homelessness
Navigate complex, high-stakes relationships across state government, advocacy organizations, service providers, and funders
Build and sustain trusted partnerships with grassroots leaders, public agencies, and philanthropic partners
Partner closely with the Public Affairs division on housing policy advocacy, legislative strategy, and government relations
Provide backbone leadership for the Supportive Housing Pipeline Coalition
Convene and align multi-sector partners to accelerate housing solutions
Center the leadership and lived experience of people most impacted by housing instability
Build a culture of continuous learning through Research-Practice Partnerships
Supervise, coach, and develop the Safe & Stable Housing team
Manage team workload and foster collaboration within the housing team and across divisions

Proven track record leading a human services organizational unit with significant scale, broad scope, and complex budgets

Job Responsibility

Align and lead the work of the Housing Placement, Behavioral Health, Stabilization and Specialized Housing Programs portfolio towards Pine Street’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and annual program and financial plans
Ensure that the rehousing and clinical programs support the agency’s strategic goals, that shelter stays are rare, brief and non-recurring, that all program efforts support either the transition of homeless individuals to permanent or alternative housing and support the retention of tenants in housing
Develop strong relationships with outside partners, such as safety net agencies, local and state officials, and consultants to ensure successful accomplishment of projects and initiatives
Continually improve guest, tenant and staff experience through effective and frequent modes of communication, and create opportunities for shared learning, incorporate guest/tenant/staff feedback to improve systems
Maintain relationships with state and local funders, community stakeholders, and other providers by representing PSI as needed in the community and responding to behavioral health and housing placement needs for unhoused individuals
Ensure all clinical, licensing and regulatory procedures are in full compliance with all local, state and federal requirements and oversee the agency’s emergency/contingency plans for assigned programs
Lead, manage, support, and retain housing placement and clinical teams who work directly with unhoused individuals often experiencing untreated trauma
Ensure that leaders and staff have the resources and tools they need to achieve productivity targets, and that productivity targets are achieved
Coordinate, assist in writing and provide data for all applications related to assigned programs and departments including new contracts and renewals and participate in policy and regulatory forums as necessary
Achieve short and long-term financial objectives by maximizing the organization’s resources and investments including revenue generating programming and medical billing reimbursements
