As a Homeless Support Officer, you’ll support young people and families experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives and move towards independence. This is a hands-on, people-focused role where you’ll be a consistent, supportive presence overnight—helping residents feel safe, valued, and empowered.

Job Responsibility:

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with residents
  • Supporting independent living skills (cooking, cleaning, budgeting, tenancy management)
  • Encouraging access to education, volunteering, apprenticeships, and employment
  • Helping residents connect with key services (healthcare, mental health, benefits, substance misuse support)
  • Creating a safe, calm and supportive environment overnight
  • Keeping accurate records using IT systems

Requirements:

  • Empathy and understanding of people facing homelessness
  • Resilience and the ability to handle challenging situations
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach
  • Basic IT skills

Nice to have:

Relevant experience or qualifications in housing, social care, or youth work

  • Respond appropriately to tenant crises by using de-escalation techniques, documenting concerns, and partnering with internal teams or outside providers when further intervention is required
  • Maintain accurate case records, prepare required reports and correspondence, protect confidential information, and report suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with policy and legal requirements
