This is an onsite position with a Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00pm - 8:30pm shift. Job Responsibility:

  • Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
  • Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax
  • Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
  • Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Performs filing of blocks and slides
  • Helps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflow
  • Research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory
  • Production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, manual and automated special staining, immunohistochemistry, and equipment maintenance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
  • Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses
  • Rare acceptance: HS Diploma with ASCP grandfathered HT certification
  • At least two years as an ASCP Certified Histotechnologist/Histotechnician preferred
  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques
  • Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards
  • Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company’s Safety Data Sheet Database
  • Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
