Job Description:

This is an immediate, full-time opportunity for a dedicated History Teacher to step into a key position within a large, co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Leeds. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging History lessons across the full 11-18 age range, contributing to the strong academic progress of the humanities department. This role demands a commitment to high teaching standards, curriculum development, and active participation in the wider school community.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and well-structured History lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
  • Assess, monitor, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of all assigned students
  • Establish and maintain a stimulating, safe, and positive learning environment within the classroom
  • Implement and enforce the school's behaviour management policies consistently and fairly
  • Contribute to the creation and review of departmental schemes of work and teaching resources
  • Attend and contribute constructively to department, staff, and parental meetings
  • Act as a tutor, undertaking pastoral duties and supporting the social and emotional well-being of a designated group of students
  • Undertake all necessary administrative tasks related to the role, including record-keeping and data analysis
  • Supervise and manage any teaching assistant support assigned to the classroom
  • Participate in the school's extracurricular programme, offering clubs or revision sessions related to History

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the current UK History curriculum and assessment frameworks
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)
  • Subject Expertise: Deep and current knowledge of historical periods and themes
  • Differentiated Instruction: Proven skill in adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs
  • Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication for engaging students and liaising with parents/staff
  • Organisation: Superior planning, time management, and administrative skills
  • Resilience: The ability to remain positive, calm, and effective under pressure
  • IT Proficiency: Competence in using educational technology and school management systems
