Peterborough City Council is seeking an outstanding Historic Environment and Design Team Leader to lead high-quality conservation and design work across one of the country's fastest-growing cities. This senior role forms a key part of our Planning Service, managing a team of historic environment and design specialists to protect, conserve, and enhance the city's historic built environment. You will provide authoritative advice on heritage and design matters, influence strategic planning for sustainable growth, and act as the Council's ambassador on historic environment and public realm design. The role requires strong leadership, expert knowledge of historic environment legislation, and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating with elected members, partners, and national bodies such as Historic England. You will work alongside colleagues within a multi-disciplinary team offering technical advice across all aspects of planning.

Requirements:
Strong professional knowledge of the historic built environment
sound understanding of current and relevant heritage legislation and regulation
substantial experience working within a regulatory planning service
track record of delivering high-quality built heritage work, including handling appeals, advising on the repair and maintenance of listed buildings, and providing design guidance on development proposals
confident managing multidisciplinary teams, leading projects effectively, and driving performance in line with local and national targets
excellent verbal and written communication skills
ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
capability to prioritise workloads to meet demanding deadlines
broad range of IT skills including Microsoft Office and planning systems such as Uniform
educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
preferably membership of a relevant professional institute
full driving licence
access to a vehicle for work purposes
flexibility to attend occasional evening meetings
