Requirements

Complete GMC registration and licence to practise
FRCPath or equivalent qualification
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Histopathology via CCT, CESR, or within 6 months of anticipated completion at the time of interview
Minimum of 6 months UK experience at Consultant level in Histopathology
Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver expert diagnostic opinions
Proven competence in reporting a wide range of histological and cytological specimens
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to present findings effectively to clinical colleagues

Job Responsibility

Deliver high-quality Histopathology and cytology reporting across a broad range of specimen types
Offer expert clinical opinions in specialised areas such as gynaecology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal, urology, and head & neck pathology
Engage in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions to support integrated patient care
Contribute to departmental teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit activities
Maintain professional development and uphold the GMC’s “Duties of a Doctor” standards at all times
Support the implementation of digital pathology and innovative reporting practices

Requirements

Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
FRCPath (Histopathology) or equivalent (or within agreed timeframe)
Eligibility for appointment at Consultant level
Broad experience in diagnostic histopathology, including cancer reporting
Experience participating in MDT working and quality assurance activities
Experience working within accredited laboratory environments
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
High diagnostic accuracy and attention to detail
Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills

Job Responsibility

Report a wide range of histopathology and diagnostic cytology specimens, including skin, gastrointestinal, urology, gynaecology, breast, and tertiary referral material
Participate in double reporting protocols for cancer cases in line with governance standards
Participate in subspecialty referral pathways for molecular and specialist testing where appropriate
Provide expert diagnostic interpretation in accordance with the Royal College of Pathologists guidance
Participate in rota arrangements covering surgical specimens, biopsies, cytology, and autopsy activity where agreed
Contribute to maintaining UKAS accreditation (ISO 15189) and compliance with external quality assurance schemes
Participate in the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Support continuous improvement of turnaround times, data quality, and workflow efficiency
Contribute to clinical governance activity, incident reporting, and audit programmes
Participate fully in Cancer MDT meetings across major tumour sites

Requirements

Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Histopathology (mandatory)
FRCPath or equivalent qualification
CCT (or equivalent) in Histopathology (or within 6 months at interview)
Ability to independently report surgical histopathology cases
Experience contributing to MDT cancer services
Evidence of participation in clinical audit
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Commitment to clinical governance, CPD, and quality improvement
Willingness to support teaching and supervision of junior staff

Job Responsibility

Provide routine surgical histopathology reporting and specimen dissection as part of the departmental rota
Participate in MDT meetings and contribute to cancer pathway diagnostics
Lead cell pathology input for at least one MDT aligned with departmental need and specialist interest
Refer complex or specialist cases to designated referral centres where appropriate
Deliver a high-quality consultant-led histopathology service in collaboration with colleagues
Work within multidisciplinary teams to support the development of clinical pathways and guidelines
Maintain adherence to departmental SOPs and professional guidance (e.g., Royal College standards)
Support efficient service delivery through effective use of skill mix, including biomedical scientist dissection
Provide leadership and professional support to junior doctors, laboratory teams, and administrative staff
Maintain collaborative working relationships with tertiary centres, community services, and primary care
