Possession of the HT or ASCP certification as a Histology Technician from the Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
At least eighteen months of general laboratory experience

Job Responsibility

Receives and logs specimens
Assesses quality and appropriateness of specimens received and takes appropriate action, under the guidance of a level II Histotech
Maintains neat, organized and legible written records
Performs routine and special Histology staining procedures accurately and notifies a level II Histotech of potential problems
Demonstrate professionalism as evidenced by the cooperative attitude of peers and associated staff
Performs minor Histology procedures in conjunction with other Histology personnel such as specimen registration, specimen disposal, filing slides and completing appropriate paperwork for consults

Requirements

Minimum qualifications to be considered a Histotechnologist II is two (2) years of experience as a histotechnologist.
Minimum experience qualifications to be considered Histotechnologist III can be met in 1 of 3 ways: 1) 3 years of experience in a Histology Anatomic Pathology (AP) lab with an HTL Certification, OR 2) 5 years of experience in a Histology Anatomic Pathology (AP) lab with an HT Certification, OR 3) 10 years of experience in Histology Anatomic Pathology (AP) lab with no certification.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must comply with Policy on Vaccination Programs.
If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment

Job Responsibility

Performs histological procedures in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO) requirements.
Utilizes a wide range of skillsets encompassing manual, semi-automated, and advanced techniques (e.g., microtomy with rotary and cryostate microtomes, special stains, IHC, IF, ICE, and EM), to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic diagnosis.
Maintains the integrity of the samples throughout the entire process, from pre-analytic to post-analytic phases.
Grossing of biopsy specimens and loading of blocks.
Preparing slides of exceptional quality, delivered efficiently and promptly in close collaboration with the lead histotechnologist and the supervisor.
Preventive maintenance, inventory management, data collection and reporting, and effective communication with different stakeholders.
Communicates effectively with co-workers, customers, staff, vendors, and others.
Serves as a technical resource.
Assists in the review, writing, and updating of policies and procedures.
Provides mentorship and training to junior staff.
