Job Description:

Deliver diagnostic histology services at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness. Perform all basic and complex histological techniques to identify host markers of infection. Support transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) surveillance throughout Australia.

Job Responsibility:

Contribute to all aspects of a Histology laboratory
Specimen Accessioning into LIMS system
Specimen cut up
Specimen processing (ASP300)
Embedding
Microtomy
Basic Histological stains H&E
Immunohistochemistry (DAKO Autostainer), including the characterisation of new anti-bodies using advanced technical skills
Slide send out and block checking
Scanning of slides
Contribute to QA requirements, maintaining up-to-date and accurate test records as well as annual updates of Standard Operating Procedures and proficiency testing
Maintain laboratory consumables
Respond efficiently to client requests

Requirements:

Relevant tertiary qualification in science preferably Applied Science, or relevant industry experience
Proven knowledge and experience in all aspects of Laboratory, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, microscopy and basic Histology staining
Demonstrated experience in immunohistochemistry skills
Understanding the importance of Quality Assurance and Quality control
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and co-operatively as a member of a larger team to work effectively towards deadlines

Nice to have:

Advanced immunohistochemistry skills including the characterization of new antibodies
Experience with ISH (in situ hybridisation)
Understanding of Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)
Previous experience in a NATA accredited histology laboratory
