Job Description:

FM Conway is currently recruiting Highways Maintenance Operative Apprentices to join our Transport for London HMPF team, working on a number of key projects based in Central London. You will work in a supported learning environment to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Operative qualification. As part of the Transport for London team, you will gain hands-on experience across a range of construction and highways maintenance activities. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Central London.

Job Responsibility:

  • Pursuing studies to gain knowledge, skills and behaviours of a highway's maintenance operative
  • being responsible for successful completion of apprenticeship and gaining work related qualifications including End Point Assessment
  • working with site team to deliver works efficiently and safely
  • working with site team to ensure tools and equipment are looked after, stored safely and securely
  • reporting incidents, accidents or points of concern to line manager or site management
  • working as part of a team on site and taking instructions from site management

  • Supervise and participate within a team of 2-4 individuals, to ensure that the routine or construction work allocated by the Works Team is safely achieved on schedule and to the required standard
  • Where appropriate, ensure proper traffic management systems are in place and that the safety of the general public is protected. Ensure the procedures to protect the environment are also followed
  • To be responsible for Health & Safety on site
  • Safe keeping and operation of significant plant including vehicles up to LGV (C+E), heavy rollers, loading shovels, mowers etc. including responsibility for their daily maintenance
  • To read and interpret utility plans, to communicate the location of these to others on site, to mark out the location prior to works so that team and utility safety is ensured
  • Communicate with the public on pending /required work, progress and any problems
  • Liaise with the Works Co-coordinator and other colleagues on work progress/site productivity and potential problems
  • To attend pre-works and progress meetings regarding schemes and completing the appropriate paperwork
  • Plan and organise work tasks, adhere to Permit Scheme, allocating them to members of the Gang. Progress highway operations within recognised guidelines and make decisions without reference to the Works Co-coordinator / Local Operations
