Job Description

The town of Townsend is recruiting candidates for a full-time position as Fleet Maintenance Mechanic, capable of performing major and minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance on a wide variety of gas and diesel town owned equipment including, but not limited to, motor vehicles, construction equipment, emergency vehicles, power equipment, and other machinery work as required to service the town.

  • Safely operate a 16-foot cube truck or larger commercial vehicle to complete daily scheduled route deliveries across the GTA
  • Load, unload, and hand-bomb materials safely, managing multi-stop distributions and handling partial pallet deliveries
  • Verify truck cargo and delivery contents meticulously against pick slips prior to warehouse departure to maximize order accuracy
  • Ensure all transported products are securely anchored, strapped, and protected prior to departure and monitored throughout the transit route
  • Perform comprehensive daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting and reporting maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Obtain necessary customer signatures, structural photos, and digital proof-of-delivery confirmations at drop-off locations
  • Maintain open, real-time communication with the dispatch office regarding route delays, access barriers, short shipments, or returns
  • Adhere stringently to provincial road safety requirements, regional highway laws, and internal safe material handling policies
