Highway Maintainer

• Perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of roadway signs, sign support structures, pavement markings and their maintenance equipment
• Perform work relating to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of roadway signs, sign support structures, pavement markings
• Direct and control traffic during roadside construction and repairs and set up lane closures
• During snow and ice conditions operate snowplows and related equipment, spread salt or sand on roadways
• Perform routine housekeeping duties in the headquarters
• Maintain job records and reports as required or assigned
• Perform all other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope and responsibility of the position duties

• Knowledge and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school
• Possession of a Class "A" CDL with appropriate endorsements, to include X or N endorsement, and not restricting an airbrake endorsement
• One year driving experience immediately preceding appointment free of incidents which could result in license suspension or revocation
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation, a pre-employment physical examination, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as well as on-going random drug and alcohol screenings
• Ability to perform arduous labor outdoors in a variety of adverse conditions
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions while maintaining productive working relationships
• Ability to work at heights in a bucket truck up to 30 feet in the air
• Ability to work on ladders up to 10 feet in the air
