This is a management position requiring incumbent to supervise and coordinate activities of the Asphalt Paving Foreperson and crew members engaged in spreading, rolling, tamping, and patching asphalt or similar material to form surfaces of highways, streets, parking lots, aircraft landing strips, and driveways. Individual should also have a working knowledge of equipment operations and repairs. The position requires day to day relations with both the people he/she is supervising and the client. This position requires daily planning of both manpower and equipment to obtain maximum utilization. This individual will be responsible for planning and scheduling and will require the incumbent to manage paving projects as a project superintendent. The individual must be willing to travel to job locations.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise and coordinate activities of the Asphalt Paving Foreperson and crew members
Work with Project Manager/Estimator to develop project schedules and updates
Work with or in lieu of the dispatcher to schedule projects, manpower and equipment, and transport schedules
Participate in project meetings with contracting agencies and customers
Participate in pre-bid and post job meetings
Interface daily with paving foreman
Ensure time cards are turned in and coding is correct
Check daily cost sheets for accuracy
Review project plans and specifications with paving foreman prior to job startup
Assist Estimating by performing field measurements
Check that foreman’s job quantities are correct and submitted
Maintain adequate oil supplies and fuels
Supervise foreman and other related employees
Coordinate daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans
Supervise and schedule work crews
Organize job site goals, timelines, and budgets
Drive to various job site locations
Assist with heavy equipment operation as needed
Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
A minimum of 5 years construction supervisor related experience – DOT experience preferred
Commercial Driver’s License is required
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write correspondence
Ability to effectively present information
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions
Ability to work well with others
Ability to type and use keyboards accurately
Knowledge of Database software
Will be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing
