We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dynamic educational team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN). Job Responsibility:
Classroom Support: Assist teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to students with diverse needs, particularly those with SEMH and SEN requirements. Provide one-on-one and small group support to ensure all students can access the curriculum effectively
Behavior Management: Implement and maintain positive behavior management strategies, working closely with teachers and other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
SEMH Support: Develop and deliver targeted interventions to support students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs. This may include running small group sessions, providing individual support, and liaising with external agencies when necessary
SEN Support: Work collaboratively with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure appropriate accommodations are in place for students with special educational needs
Assessment and Monitoring: Assist in assessing student progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing regular feedback to teachers, parents, and other relevant stakeholders
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and adaptation of curriculum materials to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all learners
Pastoral Care: Provide emotional support and guidance to students, fostering a safe and nurturing environment that promotes well-being and personal growth
Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support and development
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEMH, SEN, and HLTA roles
Administrative Duties: Assist with administrative tasks related to student support, including maintaining records, preparing reports, and participating in team meetings
Requirements:
HLTA status or equivalent qualification
Proven experience working with students with SEMH and SEN needs
Strong understanding of child development and learning processes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students’ growth and well-being
Proficiency in behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to child protection
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school
