Take the Lead: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in Preston! Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking to step up and make a greater impact in the classroom? We are seeking confident and qualified individuals to join supportive primary schools in Preston starting in January 2026. In a city with such a diverse and ambitious educational landscape, the role of an HLTA is vital. You will be the bridge between teaching and support, taking the lead on whole-class instruction during PPA time or teacher absences, while still providing the high-level intervention that helps students excel. Job Responsibility:
Lead whole classes across the school (EYFS, KS1, or KS2) in the absence of the class teacher
Plan and deliver learning activities, adapting them based on student needs and progress
Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing, and recording student achievement
Provide specialized small group interventions in Literacy and Numeracy
Manage classroom behavior effectively, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the school day
Requirements:
HLTA Status or a recognized equivalent qualification (Level 4 or above)
Proven experience leading whole classes in a primary school setting
Strong curriculum knowledge across multiple Key Stages
Excellent communication and classroom management skills
Ability to be proactive, flexible, and use your own initiative
