Job Description:

Join our team at Fairalls, a respected independent builder’s merchant serving the Southeast since 1990. With a commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, we are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the largest independent merchant group in the South of England. We’re expanding our delivery team at our Gatwick Branch and are looking for a dependable HGV Relief Driver/Van Driver/Yard Operative to help us continue delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver building materials to customers using a company van (3.5t or similar), ensuring safe and legal driving at all times
  • Plan efficient delivery routes in line with schedules provided
  • Ensure all goods are correctly loaded, secured, and signed for
  • Provide excellent customer service upon delivery, resolving minor queries where possible
  • Undertaking various other driving jobs required in relation to the efficient operation of the business
  • Assisting in the yard area with deliveries and assisting customers where necessary
  • Assist customers in locating and loading building materials
  • Safely load/unload goods from supplier vehicles and customer collections using forklifts (if licensed)
  • Maintain yard organisation and cleanliness, ensuring materials are stored safely and correctly
  • Carry out regular stock checks and report shortages or damages
  • Follow all health & safety procedures, including PPE requirements

Requirements:

  • HIAB Class 2 licence
  • Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role
  • Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Class 2 licence
  • Experience in a similar role within a builders’ merchant, construction, or trade environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Good knowledge of building materials and products (desirable)
  • Forklift licence (counterbalance) desirable but training may be provided
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform manual handling duties
