Join our team at Grant & Stone Building Supplies, a respected independent builder’s merchant serving the Southeast since 1987. With a commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, we are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the largest independent merchant group in the South of England. We’re expanding our delivery team at our Somerton Branch and are looking for a dependable HGV Class 2 Driver to help us continue delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Operate a DAF HGV fitted with a hook‑loader crane to collect, transport, and deliver loads
  • Carry out safe loading and unloading of containers, skips, or materials using the hook crane system
  • Perform daily vehicle checks, ensuring the truck and crane are roadworthy and compliant
  • Follow all site safety rules, traffic management plans, and lifting procedures
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, paperwork, and digital logs
  • Communicate effectively with site managers, dispatch teams, and customers
  • Ensure loads are secured correctly and transported safely
  • Report defects, incidents, or maintenance needs promptly
  • Represent the company professionally on customer sites

Requirements:

  • HGV Class 2 (Category C) or Class 1 licence (depending on employer requirements)
  • Experience operating DAF trucks and hook‑loader crane systems
  • HIAB / Hook Crane certification (e.g., ALLMI, NPORS, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of load security and lifting operations
  • Good communication and customer‑service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of UK road transport regulations and tachograph rules
