Job Description

The heavy equipment diesel mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and drilling equipment used in Mining, and drilling operations. The mechanic ensures maximum equipment availability, safety, and performance through proper maintenance and troubleshooting.

Job Responsibility

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines on heavy equipment and dill rigs
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic systems including pump, motors, valves, and cylinders
  • Repair and maintain drilling equipment, compressors, and support machinery
  • Perform preventative maintenance on drill rigs
  • Diagnose fuel systems problems including injectors, fuel pumps and filters
  • Inspect and repair hydraulic equipment
  • Troubleshooting overheating, pressure loss, and abnormal hydraulic flow issues
  • Perform field breakdown repairs and emergency maintenance
  • Replace worn components like seals, bearings, hydraulic hoses
  • Read and interpret hydraulic and mechanical schematics
  • Maintain service and maintenance reports
  • Ensure all work follows safety and operational procedures

Requirements

  • Diesel mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic certification
  • 3-7 years’ experience working with drill rigs or heavy equipment
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and pumps
  • Be able to communicate in English
  • Be able to obtain a driver’s license
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment systems
  • Experience with hydraulic pumps, motors, and control valves
  • Ability to diagnose hydraulic overheating, pressure loss and flow issues
  • Knowledge of drilling equipment
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and pressure testing equipment
  • Ability to read hydraulic and mechanical diagrams
