Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a highly skilled Healthcare Procurement Counsel with deep expertise in healthcare, technology, and complex commercial contracting. In this role, you will drive enterprise-wide procurement strategy and serve as a trusted legal advisor to both operational leadership and the broader legal team. This role is ideal for an attorney who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and has hands-on experience negotiating sophisticated technology, data, clinical, and vendor agreements — particularly within healthcare systems, health plans, research organizations, or public-private partnerships.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide expert legal counsel on procurement matters including vendor agreements, IT and SaaS contracts, clinical and operational procurements, and supply chain transactions
  • Advise on regulatory considerations impacting purchasing, including HIPAA, FDA compliance, CMS rules, data privacy, and NYC procurement laws
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of procurement agreements, such as: SaaS and cloud-based technology contracts, Cybersecurity and data‑sharing agreements, Professional services and consulting agreements, Clinical and medical technology procurements
  • Drive contract strategy to ensure alignment with organizational and operational priorities
  • Identify and mitigate legal and operational risks throughout the procurement lifecycle
  • Support development, enhancement, and implementation of internal procurement policies and workflows
  • Promote best practices in contract governance, vendor management, and regulatory compliance
  • Partner closely with internal teams—including IT, finance, clinical operations, pharmacy, and supply chain—to deliver clear, practical legal guidance
  • Provide responsive, solutions-oriented support to senior leadership and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active NY State Bar license (required)
  • 3–7 years of commercial contracting experience, ideally in healthcare, life sciences, or health IT
  • Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, FDA, CMS, data privacy, and healthcare regulatory frameworks
  • Proven success negotiating complex procurement and vendor agreements
  • Ability to operate in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and stakeholder‑facing environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in public sector or quasi-public procurement highly preferred
  • Leadership experience or the ability to mentor junior legal staff a plus
  • Prior experience working in healthcare provider, health plan, nonprofit health system, or research institution environments
  • Strong familiarity with SaaS/cloud technology agreements and data governance
  • Understanding of value-based care, managed care models, or healthcare reimbursement structures
