The Healthcare Paralegal provides investigative, analytical, and research support to the Legal Department, assisting with a wide range of patient‑related and compliance matters.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as the initial point of contact for incoming calls to the Legal Department regarding patient rights issues, allegations of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property, discharge concerns, AMA situations, and related matters
route inquiries to appropriate counsel as needed
Intake, investigate, and help resolve non‑privileged allegations involving abuse, neglect, theft, and privacy/HIPAA concerns
escalate to legal counsel when appropriate
Draft, review, and edit a variety of legal documents and correspondence
Conduct legal research to support attorneys and internal stakeholders
Review and respond to inquiries from both internal teams and external entities, including patients and state/federal oversight agencies
Act as a liaison between the Legal Department and internal departments to support compliance and organizational risk‑management initiatives
Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
Paralegal certificate or comparable education in Paralegal/Legal Studies required
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not mandatory
Three to five (3–5) years of healthcare‑related legal experience in a law firm or in‑house environment preferred
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to evaluate issues quickly and offer practical, business‑focused solutions
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high‑quality work in a fast‑paced setting
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals across all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders and outside counsel
Demonstrated judgment, discretion, and professionalism
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications
