The Health Care Assistant works under the direction of a trained nurse assisting with the care of patients, the maintenance of a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, and in the clerical/administrative running of outpatient clinics. Health Care Assistant responsible for caring for elderly, disabled, mentally ill, or injured patients in a healthcare setting. Performs direct care duties, including bathing, feeding, dressing, and ambulating. Assists medical staff in providing care for residents of long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, as well as for short-term hospital patients. During a typical workday, they perform a wide variety of non-medical duties.
Job Responsibility:
Perform routine tasks under the supervision of registered nurses
Deal promptly and courteously with all Consultants and patients in the department, where necessary referring to the relevant Nurse
Undertakes clerical duties as assigned by the Head Nurse/Nurse in charge e.g. supply requisition & copying of documents
To assist in the Reception/Appointments office when necessary
Distribute/collects documents to appropriate departments e.g. pathology, Blood bank & Laboratory
Set up equipment such as oxygen tents, portable x-ray machines, and overhead irrigation bottles
Store and move supplies
Checking the day-to-day cleanliness of the department and reporting any problems to the nurse in charge of the department
Maintenance of a clean, tidy, comfortable, and safe department
Clean and disinfect all surfaces to include equipment according to infection control policy
Answer calls for help and determines if additional help is needed
Provide hands-on care to patients in a variety of settings of the hospitals
