The Outpatients Department at the Harbour Hospital is busy and vibrant, catering to a wide range of Clinical Specialties. This exciting role involves supporting Consultants and other clinicians to run high quality and efficient outpatient clinics, providing treatment and care for outpatients attending the nurse-led clinic, and ensuring patient satisfaction. Daily tasks will include setting up clinical rooms with specialist equipment, chaperoning for physical examinations, phlebotomy and other pathology related processes, performing dressing changes, and answering clinical queries remotely by phone or email. We also support the minor surgeries operating theatre. Full training will be given for the practical aspects of the role, but the ability to multi-task, prioritise and communicate clearly under pressure are important skills for successful candidate to possess.
Job Responsibility:
Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity
Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate
Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment
Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training)
Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids
Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use
Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care
Requirements:
Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary)
Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude
Ability to follow instructions and escalate concerns appropriately
Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills
Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks
Nice to have:
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable
Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures
