Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager to join our team in the Cork area. As a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager you will be responsible for providing professional management of the Health & Safety (“H&S”) functions within Breedon Ireland, ensuring full legislative compliance through practical implementation, and improved standards throughout the company.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work as part of a team in the safe delivery of our company strategy, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture
  • Instil a positive Health and Safety culture within the team in their thinking and actions
  • Ensure compliance with all current legislation in relation to H&S in the workplace, and to provide updates on legislation and regulations, and their implementation, as appropriate
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of best practice procedures and policies to be used with the above H&S and Q&E management systems within the company
  • Coordinate the work of employees who may report, either temporarily or permanently, directly to the job holder
  • Assist with and implement H&S Procedures. Ensuring that new procedures and/or practices are developed to prevent the same or similar accidents
  • Advise on the implementation of H&S Systems within the region
  • Ensuring that Company H&S employees are carrying procedures in compliance with the relevant management systems – reporting any issues to the H&S Director and appropriate MD in a timely and appropriate fashion
  • Carry out in depth monthly audits, reporting on actions required to the MD, and reporting on progress to audit actions
  • To coordinate the preparation of information in relation to health and safety for external purposes
  • Ensuring all appointments are in place for Quarries, construction projects and employees
  • Obtaining and reviewing safety documentation from Clients, Suppliers and Subcontractors
  • Ensuring that subcontractors are made aware of the Company’s Plan and the requirement for project specific safety statements before appointment
  • Reviewing, revising and updating documentation in the light of subcontractors’ information, the progress of work, the receipt of new design information and the occurrence of incidents or accidents
  • Implementing the Plan and monitoring the compliance of employees and subcontractors against the Plan
  • Brings any safety, health or welfare issues to the attention of the Contract Manager, Quarry Manager for action prior to leaving site
  • Advises site management of the suitability and adequacy of safety and health provisions, safe working methods, safety of equipment and the validity of test certificates
  • Carrying out site inspections and generating reports
  • Liaising with external parties relating to H&S
  • Assign H&S duties and responsibilities to competent persons
  • Assist and lead team incident investigations overseeing the H&S team through reports and action tracking. Conduct incident/accident investigations and prepare reports for internal/external purposes
  • Review reports of reportable accidents and obtains necessary clarification or further details
  • Maintain relationships with Government agencies
  • Monitor emerging EHS legislation and ensure company is compliant
  • Chair Regional H&S and wellbeing meetings and assist in developing action plans and programmes for dealing with issues identified. Ensure that minutes are taken at these meetings and actions are circulated to all members and appropriate employees
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as necessitated by your function

Requirements:

  • Qualification in a relevant subject related to industrial health and safety management – preferably the NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety Management
  • At least 5 years management experience in similar compliance-based role
  • Demonstrate the investigation, planning and implementation of compliance systems, to desirably ISO45001
  • The ability to develop systems which meet the standards expected by external accreditation bodies, but which reflect the nature of the Company, and the practical implementation within the workplace
