Job Description:

We are seeking a Health and Safety Teacher to join our education team at HMP Five Wells. You will deliver engaging and relevant Health and Safety lessons to adult learners within a custodial environment, supporting them to gain recognised qualifications and develop skills that improve their employability on release. Working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary education team, you will plan and deliver lessons that meet awarding body requirements while adapting your approach to the needs of individual learners, Previous teaching experience is not essential. We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Five Wells, working as a Health & Safety Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver Health and Safety teaching sessions to small groups of adult learners
  • Assess learner progress and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Support learners to achieve accredited Health and Safety qualifications
  • Maintain accurate learner records in line with quality and awarding body requirements
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and prison staff to support learner engagement and progress

Requirements:

  • A recognised Health and Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one
  • Experience delivering Health and Safety training or education, ideally to adults
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working in a prison education environment
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working
