Job Description

DeVry Greenhouses is looking for a proactive and hands-on Health & Safety Lead to join our People & Culture team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about creating safe, healthy workplaces and wants to take ownership of programs that directly impact employee well-being across our operations in BC, Alberta, and Michigan. In this role, you will lead and evolve our Health & Safety program by driving compliance, improving systems and processes, supporting injury prevention initiatives, and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being present in operations, collaborating with teams, and making a meaningful impact every day.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and continuously improve Health & Safety programs, policies, and procedures across multiple operations
  • Partner with leadership teams to support annual safety initiatives and organizational goals
  • Promote a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, prevention, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations including WorkSafeBC, Alberta OHS/WCB, and MIOSHA requirements
  • Support COR certification activities, audits, inspections, and ongoing compliance efforts
  • Stay current on legislative updates and industry best practices
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments in greenhouse and operational environments
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Support return-to-work and injury management processes in a safe and supportive manner
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to incidents, inspections, and audits
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs including WHMIS, PPE, and safe work practices
  • Support emergency preparedness and first aid readiness across sites
  • Co-chair Joint Health & Safety Committees and follow up on action items
  • Promote employee participation and engagement in safety initiatives

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a Health & Safety role
  • Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, or similar operational environments is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC and Alberta OHS regulations
  • Experience with COR certification and audit processes
  • Intermediate First Aid certification
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to safety and employee well-being

Nice to have

Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, or similar operational environments is considered an asset
