The Health and Safety Instructor is responsible for designing, preparing, and delivering engaging health and safety training that develops learner competence, supports compliance, and promotes safe working practices across practical and classroom-based environments. 3t Utilities (based in Manchester) Delivery of accredited and non-accredited health and safety training programmes. Practical and theory-based instruction in classroom, workshop, and site-simulated environments. Maintenance of training quality, learner records, course materials, and awarding-body requirements.
Job Responsibility
Plan, prepare, and deliver health and safety training programmes in line with course specifications and learner needs
Deliver both theory-based and practical instruction using clear communication, learner engagement techniques, and inclusive teaching methods
Adapt training delivery to suit different learning styles, experience levels, and operational contexts
Facilitate learner participation, answer questions confidently, and provide constructive feedback to support competence and confidence
Assess learner understanding through observation, questioning, practical activities, and formal assessment methods where required
Prepare lesson plans, training resources, presentations, and practical exercises to meet course outcomes
Ensure training materials remain current, accurate, and aligned with legislation, standards, and awarding-body requirements
Maintain course documentation, learner records, attendance, and assessment evidence to the required standard
Support internal quality assurance activities, standardisation, and continuous improvement of course delivery
Maintain training equipment, PPE, demonstration resources, and practical learning areas in a safe and serviceable condition
Manage stocks of training consumables and ensure materials are available for scheduled courses
Maintain own professional competence through continuing professional development, refresher training, and industry updates
Represent the organisation professionally with learners, clients, awarding bodies, and internal stakeholders
Deliver training in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, maintaining safe control of classroom and practical activities
Hold and maintain in-date trainer approvals, licences, and scheme-specific accreditations relevant to the courses delivered
Carry out risk assessments and pre-use checks for training activities, equipment, and environments
Ensure all training delivery and assessment activity meets internal standards, client expectations, and awarding-body requirements
Requirements
Demonstrable training delivery capability and subject-matter expertise aligned to health and safety training course requirements
Strong communication skills, learner engagement capability, and the ability to adapt delivery to different learning styles
Ability to deliver both practical and theory-based health and safety instruction effectively
Evidence of competence such as a current CV, relevant course materials or training portfolio, and references or endorsements
Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent training qualification)
Health and Safety qualification at a minimum of IOSH Managing Safely
Emergency First Aid at Work and commitment to maintaining all required training approvals and certifications in date
Nice to have
Ladder Association training requirements met, including in-date Ladder User and Ladder Inspector certificates, completion of the two-day Instructors’ Course, and mentored training sessions
PASMA instructor route completed, including Mobile Access Towers for Users, Low Level Access, the three-day Instructor route, and mentored full-course sessions
IPAF instructor requirements met, including minimum two years’ operator experience, in-date Operator and Demonstrator Licences (3a and 3b), IPAF MEWPs for Managers, Harness Appreciation, IPAF Site Survey, completion of the five-day Instructors’ Course, and mentored delivery sessions
plus any current awarding-body or scheme specific approvals relevant to specialist accredited courses
