Job Description

We are currently seeking a proactive and committed Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Assistant to support safe, sustainable and high-quality operations across the South West Maintenance & Response (M&R) Contract. This is a diverse, mobile role ideal for someone who enjoys working across sites, engaging with teams, and contributing to continuous improvement. You will work closely with the HSE Advisor to drive safety culture, promote environmental excellence, and ensure compliance across a wide range of highway maintenance and operational activities.

Job Responsibility

  • Carry out site and depot inspections
  • produce clear reports and follow-up actions
  • Support teams with safety guidance, coaching and technical advice
  • Promote safe behaviours and challenge unsafe conditions
  • Assist with risk assessments, incident investigations and performance monitoring
  • Maintain and use business management systems effectively
  • Review near misses, audit actions and prepare monthly HSE reports
  • Support environmental responsibilities including carbon reporting, waste management and PAS 2080 activities
  • Work closely with supply chain partners and assist with onboarding/auditing

Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a similar HSE role (highways/civils experience desirable)
  • Strong communication, organisation and attention to detail
  • Confident using Microsoft Office
  • Able to work independently and manage your own diary
  • Proactive, team-focused and committed to continuous improvement

  • Support matchday and event operations, including auditing Chef/Manager Packs and ensuring compliance across all food and beverage areas
  • Carry out event-day audits for third-party partners such as Peppermint or Kerb
  • Undertake daily and weekly stadium audits, identifying potential hazards and working with Heads of Department (HODs) to implement corrective actions
  • Lead the unit’s Net Zero Toolkit activity and champion sustainability initiatives in line with Levy’s Net Zero objectives
  • Provide clear, competent HSE guidance to managers and operational teams
  • Follow the site HSE weekly planner as directed by the General Manager
  • Communicate key HSE messages to frontline teams
  • Support HODs with incident investigations
  • Assist with regular audits and compliance checks against Compass and Levy policies, procedures, and operational frameworks
