We are seeking a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor to support our Northern Territory and Far North Queensland (NT/FNQ) sites. As our new HSE Advisor, you will deliver HSE services to our Darwin site and within the NT/FNQ region, providing practical and technical advice to a diverse range of stakeholders. A strong emphasis of your role will be on education, coaching, and training that builds capability, supports informed decision making, and promotes shared accountability for safety. Working independently across multiple sites, you will identify risks and opportunities for improvement, advise on complex HSE matters, and lead the development and implementation of strategic safety initiatives. You will also play a critical role in supporting facility-based health and safety management across the region. Please note, travel within your region (including to FNQ sites) is a core part of the role.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and deliver key HSE activities and initiatives aligned to CSIRO’s HSE Plan, ensuring consistency across sites in the NT/FNQ region
Provide practical, timely advice to leaders and teams on HSE risk management, safe systems of work and legislative requirements
Facilitate audits, inspections and hazard identification activities, and support effective improvement opportunities
Coach and educate staff through training and on-the-job guidance, strengthening capability and shared accountability for safety
Partner with facility and operational stakeholders to manage risks associated with buildings, laboratories, workshops, plant and equipment
Requirements:
A relevant trade certificate (eg. Cert 4 in Work Health and Safety) or equivalent relevant work experience in Health, Safety & Environment, Risk Management or related fields
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with HSE staff and key stakeholders to foster a positive safety culture and build strong relationships, with a capacity to adapt to changing environments and challenges to achieve team objectives
Proven experience in understanding stakeholder priorities and working with HSE teams to design, deliver, and implement effective communication strategies (both written and verbal, such as training) to ensure consistent messaging across the organisation
Experience in facilitating knowledge transfer within HSE teams and across stakeholders, while providing support, guidance, and coaching to colleagues, encouraging open communication and strong collaboration
Proven ability to interpret legislation and regulatory standards, as well as other relevant information, to proactively identify potential issues and respond appropriately
Demonstrated experience in facility-focused health and safety, including the ability to identify, assess, and manage risks associated with buildings, plant, equipment, laboratories, and operational environments, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and organisational standards
