The Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized, and detail-oriented Health Information Associate for the Chicago VA home located in Chicago, Illinois. This position will be responsible for a variety of paraprofessional health information functions such as assisting in planning, organizing and maintaining statistical records, reports and a variety of Health Information documents pertaining to residents, answering telepones for medical informatio from other departments, and reviewing health records for accuracy.
Job Responsibility
Performs a variety of paraprofessional health information functions
Assists in planning, organizing and maintaining statistical records, reports and a variety of Health Information documents pertaining to residents at the Illinois Veterans' Home
Assists in planning, organizing and maintaining patient medical information received from a variety of healthcare facilities (e.g. local health providers, VA medical centers, V.A. hospitals, etc.) and processes said information through established procedures
Collects and records information associated with residents upon admission, death or discharge
Answers the telephone and handles request for medical information from other departments which requires the knowledge of medical, psychological, psychiatric and anatomical terminology
Implements the Authorization of Release Information, requiring signatures and forwarding on to appropriate parties which requires the knowledge of federal and state statutes regarding confidentiality, HIPAA, and release of information
Reviews the health information record for accuracy, timeliness and completeness and to interpret health information records
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Requirements
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of college and one year of health related office experience, or completion of high school and three years of health related office experience
Requires ability to pass a background check
Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance
Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate
Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers
Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties
This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime
