Health Care Assistant

• Assist with routine patient care including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition and comfort
• Support the nursing team with venepuncture and cannulation clinical observations, monitoring vital signs and accurately documenting patient information
• Support the team with patient admissions, transfers and discharges
• Prepare equipment for clinical procedures
• Ensure all documentation is completed accurately
• Close observation of patients, recognising and escalating any deterioration promptly
• Maintaining infection prevention standards
• Supporting patient dignity
• Communicating effectively with patients, relatives and the wider multidisciplinary team

• Care Certificate
• Completion of a clinical skills competency- based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or willingness to undertake
• GCSE Maths & English or qualified to equivalent Functional skills level 2 in Maths & English, or willingness to undertake

• Ability to undertake a range of basic patient clinical observations

• At least 6 months of care experience working in a health or social care setting
• Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance
• Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety
• Knowledge of clinical patient observations
• Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment e.g. blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, cannulation etc.
