The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is a vital member of the team at the Oxford Community Diagnostic Centre (OCDC), responsible for providing essential, first-class support and assistance to medical professionals and patients. HCA is a compassionate and dedicated individual who can effectively communicate with patients, deliver healthcare services, and maintain a safe and comfortable environment within Perspectum’s healthcare setting and its daily operations. The range of diagnostic tasks the HCA will support: phlebotomy, chaperone, sleep study demonstration and management, preparation of patients for imaging procedures, obtaining physiological measurements (e.g. blood pressure or saturation levels), management of patient activity, general stock, and IPC measures. You will work as part of a team as well as independently and be open to changes in a fast developing environment. You will have extensive learning and continued professional development opportunities that they will be expected to undertake to support the development of the service.
Job Responsibility
Support clinicians during examinations and procedures
Perform patient-related procedures such as phlebotomy, sleep study demonstrations, physiological observations
Prepare patients for imaging and diagnostic procedures
Act as a chaperone, ensuring patient dignity, comfort, and safety
Monitor patients and promptly escalate any concerns to a registered clinician
Maintain accurate patient records using electronic systems (EPR/CRIS)
Work effectively within the OCDC team
Support onboarding and training of new team members
Contribute positively to service improvement and innovation
Participate in mandatory and statutory training
Engage in continuous learning and development opportunities
Maintain a proactive approach to skills development and service excellence
Requirements
Previous NHS experience / health care setting
GCSE-level (or equivalent) literacy and numeracy
IT literate with ability to use clinical systems
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
High level of empathy, compassion, and professionalism
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Adaptable and responsive to change
Nice to have
Experience in a radiology or diagnostic environment
