Job Description

As the Head Stadium Groundsperson, you will lead and inspire our grounds team to deliver pitch excellence that meets the highest standards in Premier League football. Your expertise will ensure the playing surface is meticulously maintained, renovated, and prepared to provide the perfect environment for top-level performance—planning and executing turf management activities like aeration, fertilization, and irrigation with precision. You'll oversee all grounds equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency on and off the field, while coordinating seamlessly with matchday operations to guarantee the pitch looks and plays at its best before, during, and after every fixture. Your leadership will be key in implementing health and safety protocols, managing budgets and procurement, and collaborating with pitch consultants and external specialists. With a focus on continuous improvement, you'll stay ahead of industry innovations and support other club sites, including the Academy of Light and Eppleton Grounds, helping us maintain our reputation for excellence on and off the pitch.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf, or an equivalent qualification
  • Experience working within a stadium environment
  • Proven competence in PA Spraying
  • Full, clean driving license
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and convey information clearly
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to stay organized, remain calm under pressure, and multitask effectively while prioritizing tasks
  • Positive attitude
  • Proactive approach
  • Experience in supervising a team
  • Experience working on championship or Premier League pitches
  • Additional qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf or PA1/PA2/PA6A Spraying certifications
  • Commitment to continuous learning
  • Must obtain an Enhanced DBS through SAFC
