The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations. Our Safety Team also helps advise on compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead development of strategic and tactical Safety Management System (SMS) implementation plans, in alignment with regulatory requirements and company objectives
  • Lead development of SMS documentation and related safety policies and procedures
  • Lead internal and 3rd party safety assurance activities (audits) of Waymo’s SMS
  • Lead development of enterprise-wide safety culture and promotion activities
  • Support enterprise-wide risk management

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in performing safety, auditing, or related functions in automotive, aviation, nuclear, medical devices, or other safety-sensitive industries
  • 4-year college degree

Nice to have:

  • Graduate degree in engineering or related discipline
  • SMP, PMP, or related safety management or project management certification
  • IATF-16949 or ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or related quality management certification
  • Autonomous Vehicle industry experience with a focus on product safety, development, release, and deployment safety culture or safety leadership experience
