An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join a leading financial institution as a Head of Technology within the Transactions Banking and Enterprise Technology domain. This pivotal role is focused on driving the strategic hub for payments technology and real-time payments, representing a heavily funded, major strategic initiative for the organization. Following an upcoming retirement, the successful candidate will provide critical senior leadership to bridge onshore and offshore teams, steering the modernisation and simplification of the technology estate. You will oversee mission-critical services, ensuring high availability, regulatory compliance, and robust risk management, while successfully navigating complex vendor partnerships and large-scale consulting environments.
Job Responsibility
Provide strong technical direction within the Enterprise Payments domain, championing the modernisation and simplification of the tech estate
Ensure mission-critical services supporting real-time payments operate efficiently, reliably, and within enterprise risk tolerances, strictly adhering to core hygiene frameworks
Drive the rollout of best-in-class, innovative growth initiatives across international and faster payments services
Guarantee strict adherence to all legal, regulatory, and payments scheme compliance obligations
Manage large, complex supplier and partner relationships, ensuring complete alignment with the corporate risk management framework across extended line management structures
Relentlessly drive productivity, process efficiency, and cultural change across the technology business
Lead, coach, and mentor onshore and offshore technology staff to uplift skills, leveraging strategic global hubs to scale teams up and down as required
Requirements
Proven experience in technology management across both change and run environments, with deep expertise in a DevOps environment and agile software development
Demonstrated enterprise payments experience within large financial institutions, including a detailed understanding of Australian Payments schemes, specifically NPP (New Payments Platform), international real-time payments, and scheme payments
Proven track record in multi-location and global people management, capable of leading, coaching, and mentoring large engineering teams across Australia and offshore innovation centres
Exceptional internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to forge strong business partnerships and manage large, complex vendor and supplier relationships
Demonstrated capability to operate effectively at a true executive level, bringing established strategies to life rather than moving up from an acting capacity
Willingness to work outside of standard hours when required to align with global teams, and open to international travel (approximately once every 6 months to regions like India)
