King’s College, The British School of Latvia, part of the prestigious Inspired Education Group, is seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of Science who will also teach Physics or Biology to advanced levels (IGCSE and IBDP). This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape a thriving Science faculty during a period of dynamic growth. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing innovative STEM initiatives and ensuring academic excellence across the department.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and manage the Science department, including Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and STEM initiatives, with strategic vision and operational efficiency
Plan and deliver high-quality Physics or Biology lessons to students across key stages, including IGCSE and IBDP
Develop and implement a forward-thinking curriculum aligned with IB and Inspired Education standards
Inspire students’ curiosity and critical thinking through engaging, inclusive, and challenging lessons
Organise and oversee science-related events, competitions, and enrichment activities
Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular initiatives and interdisciplinary learning opportunities
Manage department resources, including budgeting, laboratory equipment procurement, and facilities use
Support and line manage science specialists and technicians
Uphold the Inspired Teaching Standards in pedagogy, assessment, and classroom management
Actively engage with the wider school community, including participation in events, trips, and extracurricular activities
Requirements:
A recognised teaching qualification and a degree in Physics, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
Experience teaching Physics or Biology at IGCSE and IBDP (or equivalent advanced level)
Proven leadership skills or the ambition and readiness to step into a faculty leadership role
A passion for science education and an innovative approach to curriculum development
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
A growth mindset and commitment to personal and professional development
Strong classroom management and the ability to inspire high standards of student behaviour and engagement
Enthusiasm for integrating Latvian cultural events and traditions into science teaching
