Job Description

We are supporting the appointment of a Headteacher for a new specialist school due to open soon. This opportunity is at an exciting stage of development and we looking for a passionate Headteacher to take lead and grow the school into greatness. Specialist provision for pupils aged 4–18, with a strong primary focus. Predominantly supporting pupils with complex autism. Many pupils will be pre-verbal, requiring highly specialist leadership and practice. Purpose-led provision designed to meet complex needs from the outset.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead with purpose: Create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for pupils and staff
  • Drive pupil progress: Help children and young people with complex needs achieve meaningful, life-changing outcomes
  • Shape the curriculum: Oversee an engaging, inclusive curriculum designed to meet individual needs
  • Champion inclusion: Embed therapeutic approaches, positive behaviour support, and inclusive practice across the school
  • Develop your team: Inspire, support, and develop a committed staff team to be the best they can be
  • Build relationships: Work closely with families, local authorities, and partners to support pupils and the school

Requirements

  • MUST have experience working with complex autism
  • Strong understanding of pre-verbal learners and complex communication needs
  • At least 3 years in a Leadership position
  • Primary leadership experience preferred
  • Confident leading a specialist setting with high-needs pupils
  • Calm, credible, and values-driven senior leader comfortable with ambiguity during start-up phases
