Reality Labs brings together experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and platform. RL includes Quest, Ray-Ban Meta, work products, AR/VR software and content, and R&D labs. We plan to release multiple products and technologies over the next few years that will define new categories and advance Meta’s mission of bringing the world closer together. We are seeking a Head of Retail Development to lead all aspects of first-party physical retail real estate, portfolio strategy, and budget management for Meta Lab stores. This role is responsible for setting the vision and execution for our retail footprint, ensuring efficient and compliant management of resources, and driving innovation—including AI integration—across the retail real estate domain. You will possess in-depth knowledge in retail real estate, with demonstrated experience managing large-scale portfolios, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships. You will partner closely with design and construction teams to help define store layouts, fixturing, and new store concepts.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the strategic direction for all first-party physical retail real estate, including site selection and support lease negotiations and portfolio optimization
  • Develop and execute portfolio strategy to balance growth, efficiency, and risk across geographies and store formats
  • Drive budgeting and financial management for the 1P retail organization, covering store build-outs, maintenance, retail operations, new projects as well as 1P and cross-functional initiatives
  • Implement AI-driven solutions for site selection, lease management, and portfolio analytics
  • Leverage advanced analytics to identify opportunities for expansion, consolidation, and optimization
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners (Legal, Leasing, Facilities, Finance, Design, Construction, Compliance) and external vendors and brokers including landlords and shopping centers
  • Support internal cross-functional partners with negotiations and managing contracts with external partners, ensuring favorable terms and compliance
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to influence store layouts, fixturing, and new store concepts
  • Ensure compliance and efficient resource allocation by partnering with cross-functional teams and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Establish and monitor financial controls, reporting, and performance metrics to track ROI and drive continuous improvement
  • Refine portfolio strategy based on market trends, consumer behavior, and business objectives
  • Surface risks and opportunities through data-driven insights and proactively recommend strategic adjustments

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • 12+ years in retail real estate, portfolio strategy, or equivalent roles
  • 10+ years experience in retail, with significant exposure to physical store operations
  • 10+ years experience in tech and/or consumer electronics
  • Demonstrated expertise in stakeholder and vendor management across complex organizations
  • Ability to convey information clearly and effectively in both clear and concise documentation and spoken formats

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Real Estate, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in retail real estate, portfolio strategy, or sales, with at least 7 years in an executive leadership
  • Experience working in a global retail organization, with an understanding of international markets and cultures
  • Proven track record of implementing AI or advanced analytics in retail real estate or portfolio management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of compliance, budgeting, and financial controls in large-scale retail environments
