You will oversee the day‑to‑day investment and funding arrangements for pension schemes with substantial assets and membership. Working closely with Trustees, senior internal stakeholders and external advisers, you will ensure strategies are robust, appropriately governed and aligned to long‑term objectives. This position combines strategic vision with practical execution - ideal for someone who can engage credibly at board level while also managing the detailed mechanics of risk, liquidity and portfolio structure.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and implement investment and funding strategies for DB and DC schemes, aligned to risk appetite and long‑term goals
Lead, develop and motivate a team of investment professionals, setting a strong cultural tone
Maintain effective relationships with Trustees, advisers, fund managers, regulators and internal stakeholders
Manage hedging, asset allocation, risk exposures, liquidity and collateral within delegated authorities
Oversee fund manager mandates, including selection, performance monitoring and challenge
Support funding discussions, including covenant considerations and strategic alignment with the wider organisation
Ensure strong internal controls, governance and reporting frameworks
Provide leadership on DC investment design, including default strategies and fund range oversight
Contribute to the development of responsible investment and climate‑risk policies
Requirements:
Deep technical understanding of funding, liability‑driven investment, derivatives, leverage and asset‑liability risk
Experience managing significant pension assets and complex investment portfolios
Strong stakeholder management capability, with proven success engaging with Trustee boards
A collaborative but confident approach to challenging advisers and service providers
Leadership experience within specialist investment or pensions teams
Broad market knowledge across asset classes and portfolio construction
Familiarity with responsible investment and climate‑related risk frameworks
Professional qualifications such as CFA or FIA are an advantage
