Thirty years and over 50 UK-wide stores later, this philosophy still holds true, and they are the country’s number one, independently owned furniture retailer. They are now looking for a Head of HR to join their team. As Head of HR you are responsible for leading the HR function and working with the Commercial Director and senior leadership team to develop and deliver a people strategy that supports the achievement of company strategic aims and commercial objectives. You will lead the HR team to provide a professional, credible, consistent and commercially focused HR service across the business. The role is accountable for ensuring that people-related decisions are legally compliant, aligned to company values, supportive of business performance and delivered with appropriate judgement, pace and care. You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and managers, providing clear guidance on employment law, employee relations, organisational change, talent, performance, engagement and people risk. You will champion the company values and leadership behaviours, helping to create a high-performing, accountable and engaged workforce. The role will be based at their Slough Head Office four to five days per week, with flexibility for the fifth day to be spent in the field supporting the business where required.
Job Responsibility
Ensuring that HR-related costs are managed effectively and that the HR function operates within agreed budgets
Providing a professional, credible and consistent HR service that balances the needs of the business with fair and reasonable treatment of employees
Supporting a motivated, engaged and high-performing workforce across the business
Developing and maintaining a high-performing HR team and supporting the business to build a high-performing workforce
Responsible for the smooth and effective running of HR operations, including legal compliance, policy compliance, administration, systems, reporting and wider HR activities
Requirements
Experience operating in a senior HR role, ideally within a multi-site, retail or customer-facing environment
Experience of leading and developing an HR team
Strong working knowledge of UK employment law, ACAS guidance and employee relations best practice
Experience of advising senior leaders on complex people matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance, restructuring and organisational change
Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance people, legal, operational and financial considerations
CIPD qualified or working towards a CIPD qualification, ideally Level 3 or above, or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
