Lead Peabody’s government engagement across Federal, QLD and NSW. Shape policy outcomes that directly impact a major mining business. Position Peabody as a credible, influential voice in energy and resources. This is a hands-on leadership (director level) role that will lead Peabody’s engagement with Federal, Queensland and New South Wales governments, regulators, and industry bodies. You will position Peabody as a credible and influential advocate on policy matters that impact the business, while directly supporting its strategic and operational objectives. Working closely with senior leaders and site teams, you will translate business priorities, emerging issues, and operational challenges into proactive and effective government relations and advocacy strategies.
Job Responsibility
Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior political, bureaucratic and industry stakeholders
Develop and execute Federal and State (QLD and NSW) government relations strategies in partnership with the VP Global Government Relations
Coordinate policy development across the business, working closely with operational and functional teams
Lead Peabody’s submissions to government and industry bodies, driving collaboration across internal teams
Identify and advise on emerging federal and state issues impacting the business and reputation
Develop targeted government engagement strategies to support specific business priorities and challenges
Represent Peabody on external industry committees, forums and working groups
Prepare internal and external government relations reporting
Support and prepare senior leaders for engagement with government and regulatory stakeholders
Manage corporate initiatives, including sponsorships and philanthropic programs, that complement government relations objectives
Build effective stakeholder relationships through both formal and informal channels
Requirements
Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and deliver outcomes without day‑to‑day supervision
Deep experience working within Queensland or New South Wales government environments, with a strong understanding of state‑level political and policy processes
Well‑established relationships across Queensland or NSW government, including senior public sector and political stakeholders
Highly self‑directed professional with a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach
Proven capability in developing, executing, and measuring strategic government engagement plans
Exceptional written communication skills, including briefing materials, submissions, and executive‑level correspondence
Extensive experience engaging with senior executives, elected officials, and senior bureaucrats
10–15 years of experience in government, public policy, or corporate government relations
