This is a senior interim assignment, providing strategic leadership across governance, democratic services, and decision-making during a period of organisational delivery and change.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the governance and democratic services function, ensuring effective, compliant decision-making
Act as principal governance advisor to senior leadership and elected members
Oversee constitutional arrangements, schemes of delegation, and governance frameworks
Ensure committees, boards, and executive decision-making operate effectively and lawfully
Support transparency, ethical governance, and risk management across the organisation
Manage and develop a specialist governance team
Work closely with legal, finance, audit, and external stakeholders
Requirements:
Senior governance leadership experience within the public sector
Strong knowledge of local government governance, constitutional arrangements, and democratic processes
Proven ability to advise members and senior officers in complex, political environments
Experience delivering assurance and stability in an interim or change context
